Canadian VPS Hosting on KVM and NVMe — Ten Milliseconds From Montréal
Self-managed KVM virtual servers on NVMe SSD, running from our New York datacentre — the closest of our two locations to Canadian users. From $9.99/month, about C$13.69 at indicative rates.
Why Canada is the market our New York datacentre fits best
OpenVista runs two datacentres: Rabat, Morocco and New York, United States. For Canadian customers the New York facility is the natural choice, and the numbers are unusually good. Central and Eastern Canada sit a short hop from the New York metro, and we already work with organisations in Montréal, including CDW Canada and the Ministère de la Justice du Québec.
| Your users | New York datacentre | Rabat, Morocco |
|---|---|---|
| Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto | About 10–20 ms round trip | About 90–110 ms |
| Halifax, Quebec City, Winnipeg | About 20–40 ms | About 100–130 ms |
| Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver | About 55–80 ms | About 140–175 ms |
There is no Canadian datacentre, and we will not run a Toronto or Vancouver landing page implying one. What we offer Canadian buyers is a genuinely close US location, honest numbers, and a second location in Morocco for companies that want a copy of their data outside North American jurisdiction entirely.
Five plans, priced in USD and shown here in indicative Canadian dollars

Built for Canadian e-commerce and agencies
The workloads we see most from Canada are commerce and client work, and both punish shared hosting in the same way: one noisy neighbour and checkout pages slow down during the busiest hour of the week.
- E-commerce. WooCommerce, PrestaShop or a custom storefront on dedicated resources, with NVMe for the database and enough RAM to stop the cart from timing out on Black Friday.
- Agencies and freelancers. One client per server, each with its own IP, provisioned from your own images and deployment scripts.
- SaaS and side projects. Cheap enough to keep a staging environment permanently online instead of rebuilding it every release.
- Bilingual operations. Support in English and French, and a French-language page for Québec buyers at our digital services.
GST, HST, PIPEDA and Bill 96
- Currency. Invoices are in US dollars. Canadian figures here are indicative only; your card issuer applies the rate on the day of the charge and some cards add a foreign transaction fee.
- GST and HST. Tax treatment for a non-resident supplier depends on whether your business is registered and whether the sale is B2B or consumer. We issue a clean monthly invoice so your accountant can self-assess; we do not give tax advice.
- Payments. Major cards and international transfer. We do not support Interac e-Transfer or pre-authorized debit.
- Privacy. Under PIPEDA an organisation remains accountable for personal information transferred to a third party, including across borders, which is why we sign a written processing agreement. For Québec, Law 25 adds its own obligations on consent and breach notification, and we will answer a privacy officer's questions directly rather than through a template.
- Bilingual obligations. If your business is subject to the Charter of the French Language, we can invoice and correspond in French on request — see our Québec page for the detail.
Support across a five-hour offset, honestly described
Rabat runs five to six hours ahead of Toronto and Montréal, and nine hours ahead of Vancouver. A ticket you raise at nine in the morning in Montréal is read the same afternoon in Rabat; a ticket raised at five in the afternoon in Vancouver lands at the start of our next working day. Support is monitored 24/7 by ticket and email, so nothing waits for a business day to be acknowledged, but we will not claim a Canadian helpdesk that we do not have.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Canadian datacentre?
No. Our servers run in New York, United States and Rabat, Morocco. For Canadian users, New York is the closer and faster of the two.
Can my data stay in Canada?
No. If Canadian residency is a hard requirement, we are not the right provider and we will say so immediately rather than after a compliance review.
Can I be invoiced in Canadian dollars?
Not today. Billing is in US dollars; the Canadian amounts on this page are indicative conversions to help you budget, not a quoted price.
Do you offer support in French?
Yes, by ticket and email, in French or English. Our team is bilingual and we can correspond in French for Québec-based businesses that need it.
How quickly is a server online?
Deployment is automated and typically completes within minutes of the payment clearing. You choose the distribution, receive credentials, and connect over SSH.
What if we need help with the application, not the server?
Our digital and media services team implements Odoo ERP, runs technical SEO audits and handles cloud migration. One supplier for infrastructure and the application on top of it.
Tell us what you are running on our contact page and we will recommend a plan, including saying so when a smaller one is enough.
